On May 16, MY NAME IS FLORIA premieres at the Teatro Ariosto in Reggio Emilia — a one-act opera by Virginia Guastella, commissioned by I Teatri – Festival Aperto and Reggio Parma Festival. The work gives voice and presence back to Floria Tosca, a figure too long trapped in a single tragic gesture.
Floria is not a heroine. She is a woman.
A voice that doesn’t scream, but carries weight.
One that inhabits silence after the noise.
That asks to be seen, not just remembered.
With the rare sensitivity of someone who knows how to touch the living matter of music, Guastella — who also wrote the libretto, drawing on Sardou, Giacosa, Illica, Shelley, and Keats — creates a new space for Floria: no longer a symbol, but a presence. With her fractures, her memory, her full voice.
